Sisi honors Egyptian champions of the Mediterranean Games

 

President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi on Tuesday honored the Egyptian champions who won medals during the 2018 Mediterranean games which ran in Spain, Tarragona from June 22 until July 1.

The President handed sports medals from the first, second and third levels to the champions and the coaches they trained.

The ceremony was attended by Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly, Minister of Youth and Sports Ashraf Sobhy, and the President of the Olympic Committee Hisham Hatab, as well as the President and Deputy Head of Egyptian Mission of the Mediterranean Games.

Ambassador Bassam Rady, Spokesperson for the Presidency, said that the President praised the achievements of the Egyptian players during the Mediterranean Games that raised the name of Egypt and its leadership high in international sporting events, bringing pride to their country.

On Tuesday Sisi gave directive to develop better methods for discovering and training sports talents among youth in various governorates, stressing his full confidence in the abilities of the Egyptian’s young people and their potential.

This came about during a meeting for Sisi with Madbouly and Sobhy. Sisi stressed the importance of benefiting from the youth’s unlimited capacity in building the country, as well as developing specific programs to encourage and motivate them to positively participate in community work.

He ordered the development of the Cairo stadium according to the latest international designs, aiming not only to develop sports the facilities in the area, but also to establish service facilities and parks for citizens that could be used throughout the year.

Sisi also ordered to develop an integrated vision aimed at establishing and developing the facilities and the infrastructure of the sports system in Egypt, in line with the large development projects being established by the government.

He added that this would qualify Egypt to possess modern logistic and organizational capabilities to host major world championships in various games at a high and developed level, while also promoting sports among the Egyptian people.

Rady said that the meeting reviewed the comprehensive strategic vision of the Ministry of Youth and Sports during the coming period and the projects it contains.

He explained that the Minister of Sports and Youth reviewed the ongoing preparations to participate in the Olympic Games in Tokyo 2020, in coordination with the Olympic Committee and sports clubs, as well as preparing to host the World Cup Handball for Men in 2021, including the infrastructure and facilities to organize this event in a manner appropriate to the status of Egypt.
