President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi held a meeting Tuesday with Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly to discuss the latest developments of the executive plan for the solid waste management system.
Sisi instructed officials to continue their efforts on the solid waste management system due to its significant impact on the daily lives of citizens in terms of the reduction of environmental and visual pollution, the reduction of diseases resulting from the incineration of waste, the reduction of environmental degradation, the establishment of a national industry for waste management, the provision of new jobs, and other factors.
He stressed the need for citizens to see a significant improvement in this vital issue.
Sisi also stressed the importance of taking into account the developmental gaps between the governorates and working to allocate additional resources to the most needy governorates, and to train and raise the efficiency of the human workforce in this regard.
The program is consistent with the government’s developmental and social goals and Egypt’s Vision 2030 for sustainable development, he noted.
The meeting was attended by Military Production Minister Mohamed al-Assar, Planning Minister Hala al-Saeed, Local Development Minister Mahmoud Shaarawy, Environment Minister Yasemin Fouad, and Chairman of the Arab Organization for Industrialization Abdel Moneim al-Terras.
Fouad said that work on the project was underway in cooperation with the Arab Organization for Industrialization and the ministries of Military Production, Planning, and Local Development in accordance with the Sisi’s directives to activate the system as soon as possible, Presidential Spokesperson Bassam Rady said.
There is continuous progress in the executive plan procedures to raise the efficiency of the collection, transfer, treatment, recycling and safe disposal of waste, in addition to organizing environmental awareness campaigns among citizens in dealing with waste, and supporting the small- and medium-sized recycling industries, Fouad added.
In related news, Shaarawy reviewed the latest steps in the program implemented in cooperation with the World Bank at LE18 billion to develop Upper Egypt governorates, enhance their competitiveness and provide job opportunities for their residents.
