The Secretary of the Arab Union for Astronomy and Space Sciences (AUASS), and former President of the National Research Institute of Astronomy and Geophysics (NRIAG), Gad al-Qady, announced that according to astronomical calculations, a total solar eclipse will occur on April 8, 2024.
This rare astronomical phenomenon will not be observed in Egypt or in any Arab country, he explained.
Instead, this eclipse will be seen partially in western Europe, the Atlantic Ocean, North America and northern South America, and the Pacific Ocean, while it will be a total eclipse in the US, Canada and Mexico.
He assured that the eclipse is harmless, and will not last more than four minutes.
Qady continued: “The partial eclipse begins at exactly 5:40 pm Cairo local time, and the peak of the total eclipse is at exactly at 8:17 pm. The partial eclipse ends at 10:52 pm, recording a time period of approximately five hours and ten minutes, while the total eclipse lasts approximately four minutes.”
