An unknowing Cairean heading to the Cairo Jazz Club last night (Monday) would have been surprised to find the night spot host to nothing short of a Friday night party. Packed to the hilt with energetic and groovy clients, the venue last night was riding the wave of good music and a good cause. Band SALAM caught the crowd in the heat of their energy. "Their music always draws a good crowd," said Tamer, a Jazz Club regular.
Other attendees were also enthusiastic about the message behind the music. "Charity events are picking up in Cairo," explained Amr, a first-timer at the Jazz Club who was drawn in by the charitable gesture. "It's a good way to get the community involved."
Nile FM has been building community charity involvement with their Nile FM Awareness program and Enigma Magazine's Kylie Minogue concert coming up this week has advertised that profits will be donated to the We Owe It To Egypt Foundation.
Raffle tickets were sold for donations of LE20 per ticket and the prizes were Sudanese ceramic bowls and handmade clothes. The Cairo Jazz Club also donated two bottles of wine as prizes.
Among those enthusiastically purchasing raffle tickets was Naguib Saweris, regular Jazz Club-goer. "I'm happy that people enjoyed themselves, the bands were excellent," said Sara al-Redy, marketing manager at the Cairo Jazz Club. "The evening was a success."
