The State Information Service (SIS) responded to reports spread online, particularly by Western outlets, regarding the presence of Egyptian armed forces in Sinai Peninsula.
In a statement issued on Saturday, the SIS confirmed that the forces present in Sinai seek to secure the Egyptian border against all threats, including terrorist operations and smuggling, within a framework of prior coordination with all parties to the peace treaty – which Egypt is fully committed to maintaining, given that it has never violated any treaty or agreement throughout its history.
The statement added that Egypt reiterates its absolute rejection of expanding military operations in Gaza and the displacement of Palestinians from their lands, and its support for the Palestinian people’s right to establish their own independent state, based on the two-state solution, on the lands of June 4, 1967, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
The US news website Axios previously revealed that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu presented US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, during their meeting in Jerusalem on Monday, with a list of what it claims are Egypt’s activities in Sinai.
