State should apologize for sexual harassment, says NCW chief

National Council for Women chief Mervat al-Tallawi called on all women who have been sexually assaulted to file reports, and join in a mass lawsuit against the state.

Prime Minister Hesham Qandil has not issued an apology on behalf of the state or contacted the council to discuss the upswing in violent incidents of sexual harassment over the past week, Tallawi told the privately-owned TV channel CBC on Monday.

The state should apologize for allowing these cases to happen, she said, describing the incidents as political and systematic, targeting peaceful female protesters.
