Hundreds of protesters in Suez, east of Cairo, staged a protest chanting slogans attacking President Hosni Mubarak. The demonstration coincides with other protests called for by opposition groups under the motto "Day of Anger."
"Ben Ali is calling you, Jeddah's hotel awaits you," the protesters cried, referring to president Zine al-Abidine Ben Ali of Tunisia, who sought refuge in the Saudi Arabian city of Jeddah mid-January, following a major popular uprising.
An eye-witness told Reuters that regular citizens joined the activists and repeated slogans attacking Mubarak and his wife, the latter of whom some Egyptians believe interferes in the country's political affairs.
Security authorities warned they would detain potential demonstrators.
Participants at another protest in front of Egypt’s High Court, downtown Cairo, chanted “Down with Mubarak,” and “Oh Gamal, tell your father, all the people hate you,” in reference to Gamal Mubarak, the president's elder son, who is widely believed to be being groomed by his father to take over as president.
