Luxor's governor Major General Tareq Saad Eddin attended a sugar cane breaking celebration on Tuesday, organized by the Arment Sugar factory to initiate sugar cane season.

There was an Arab horse show and folk bands performed.

Among the attendees were Luxor Security Chief Major General Hassan al-Manawy, the head of Luxor farmers’ trade union Rushdy Abul Wafa, and large number of farmers who began the harvest of around 1.4 million tons over five months to produce around 140,000 tons of sugar.

In his speech, the governor heard demands of the factory workers and farmers and expressed support for them. He also stressed the government’s response to their demands and problems related to debts, fertilizers and increasing ton price.
