Supply Ministry official arrested over bribery charges

On Tuesday, police arrested a senior official from the Ministry of Supply and Internal Trade over bribery charges.

The Minister of Supply and Internal Trade Mohamed Abu Shady said the arrest of the manager of his office was an individual incident and came within a framework of purging the ministry of corruption.

Abu Shady pointed out he provided help for control authorities to arrest the defendant. He added the defendant was arrested at his house.

No one is above law after the two uprisings of 25 January and 30 June, said Abu Shady.

Abu Shady appealed to citizens to report any corruption relating to the Supply and Internal Trade Ministry to control authorities, whatever the position of the violator was.

An Interior Ministry source told Youm7 news website that the Administrative Control Authority received information that the defendant has obtained bribes up to LE8 million from business owners in return for concluding wheat deals.
