Supreme Council of University Hospitals in Egypt alerted to confront COVID-19

Egypt’s Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research Khaled Abdel-Ghaffar has confirmed the provision of precautionary medical needs and supplies in university hospitals for all health care staff dealing with coronavirus patients.

The confirmation came during a meeting of the Supreme Council of University Hospitals on Wednesday. The minister expressed his appreciation for the huge efforts made by the medical staff working in university hospitals during the past period.

He also stressed the need for full cooperation and coordination between the Ministry of Higher Education and the directorates of the Ministry of Health and Population to efficiently deal with the pandemic, whether in the isolation hospitals of the Health Ministry or isolation hospitals in universities.

Abdel-Ghaffar directed the council to make sure isolation hospitals are ready to increase their capacity.

Additionally, he instructed coordination between the council and the healthy ministry to continue vaccinating medical teams in isolation hospitals, followed by members of health teams in Egyptian universities.

Abdel-Ghaffar reviewed the council’s action plan in case of an increase of cases in university hospitals, and emphasized the need to equip the hospitals with oxygen reserves, medicine, and medical supplies.

The Minister also promised during the meeting to solve any obstacles related to bonuses for medical staff in isolation hospitals, and to follow up any cases that require intervention.
