The Military Prosecution in Egypt referred a defendant to an urgent trial before the Military Criminal Court over running over a family in Madinaty City.
Local reports had indicated that the suspect, a “medical officer”, ran over a pharmacist and her family earlier in July in Madinaty city, east of Cairo.
The incident sparked widespread outrage.
A statement by the Egyptian army spokesman on Sunday said, “The military prosecutor stated that the military prosecution has completed investigations into the case against the suspect, and the case has been referred to urgent criminal trial before the Military Criminal Court.”
The suspect faces charges of “premeditated and attempted murder,” after the death of a woman and injuries to her husband and their three children, according to a previous statement by the Egyptian army.
