The Foreign Ministry announced on Thursday that two Egyptians were shot dead and two others wounded by Syrian border guards as they tried to illegally cross into Syria from Jordan. It is believed that they were attempting to pass through Syria to get to Turkey and eventually reach Europe.
“The Jordanian authorities informed our embassy of the incident,” said Foreign Ministry spokesperson Amr Roshdy, adding that the Syrian border is considered a strictly prohibited military zone, especially given the current tension in the country.
Roshdy warned of the serious risks involved in such attempts. “The Syrian border is under a severe security alert, and if infiltrators are not arrested in Syria, they will be in Turkey,” he said, urging Egyptian youth not to attempt illegal immigration and risk their lives.
