Tamarod to submit amendments to Constitutional Declaration

The Tamarod campaign was not consulted before Monday night's Constitutional Declaration announcement, spokesperson Hassan Shaheen said, adding that the movement is planning to submit amendments to the new statute.

"Is it wrong to be honest with the people?" Shaheen asked on his Facebook page Tuesday. "I am saying we were not consulted on the Constitutional Declaration and we will submit our amendments to it. I am being honest for the sake of transparency and to put the people in the picture."

Interim President Adly Mansour on Monday issued a Constitutional Declaration composed of 33 articles.

The declaration gives Mansour, who replaced Mohamed Morsy as Egypt's leader following his overthrow last week, the power to issue laws after consultations with the new government.

Two committes have also been formed, both tasked with amending the 2012 constitution.

The first is made up of 10 legal experts from judicial authorities and constitutional law departments at Egyptian universities.

The second comprises 50 members supposed to represent a spectrum of society.
