Field Marshal Hussein Tantawi, the head of Egypt's ruling military council, met on Wednesday with several presidential hopefuls and political figures, state news agency MENA reported.
The meeting tackled local developments. Former Arab League chief Amr Moussa, Islamist lawyer Mohamed Selim al-Awa, and Supreme Council of the Armed Forces Chief of Staff Sami Anan attended, MENA said.
On Sunday, Tantawi met with several political figures to address the political situation, including Moussa, Awa, Wasat Party chief Abul Ela Mady, Free Egyptians Party founder Naguib Sawiris, Nour Party chief Emad Abdel Ghaffour, and Lawyers Syndicate chief Sameh Ashour.
Presidential hopefuls Abdel Moneim Abouel Fotouh, Mohamed ElBaradei, Hisham al-Bastawisi, Hamdeen Sabbahi, and Democratic Egyptian Party chief Mohamed Abul Ghar chose not to attend.
After the meeting, Tantawi decided to form a consultative council of 50 members representing the military, politicians, party chiefs, presidential hopefuls and revolution youth.
The council is tasked with assisting new Prime Minister Kamal al-Ganzouri with meeting demands during the transitional period.
