Telecom Egypt announced it would be cooperating with Zain-Omantel International (ZOI) to create a digital corridor linking the Mediterranean Sea, the Arabian Sea, and the Arabian Gulf region, creating a wholly new path for data transfer between the continents of Asia and Europe.
This digital corridor extends from the coast of the Sultanate of Oman to the Mediterranean coasts of Egypt, utilizing a large number of optical fibers across land and sea paths.
Saudi Arabia and Egypt will be directly linked via a submarine cable through the Red Sea through a large number of optical fibers.
Customers of both Telecom Egypt and ZOI will benefit from this new corridor thanks to integrated solutions directly between landing points from the Arabian Sea to the Mediterranean Sea.
It follows as part of the ZOI’s plans for infrastructure expansion, covering multiple regions such as Bahrain, Kuwait, Jordan and Iraq, and its plans to cooperate with land submarine cable companies in each country.
Managing Director and CEO of Telecom Egypt, Mohamed Nasr, said that the strategic corridor will serve as a turning point in the field of international connectivity between Asia and Europe.
