Temperatures to drop across Egypt on Tuesday as thunderstorms rain down at New Valley: EMA

The Egyptian Meteorological Authority (EMA) expects temperatures to drop on Tuesday, and a noticeable improvement will be felt in the north of the country, Greater Cairo, and even northern Upper Egypt.

Meteorologists also expect temperatures to drop by mid-September.

Weather maps show a continued advance of the tropical break to the south of the country, leading to the proliferation of thunderclouds which could potentially cause heavy rains and floods in some areas, especially the south of the New Valley and the far southwest of Egypt.

There are chances of light to moderate rain, with possible thunderstorms, in areas south of the New Valley, accompanied by active winds stirring up dust and sand.

Weather maps have also monitored occasionally active winds in areas of South Sinai, the Red Sea mountain ranges and northern Upper Egypt, stirring up dust in areas of southern Upper Egypt.

The EMA called on citizens in these areas to exercise caution.

Expected temperatures on Tuesday:

  • Alexandria: 33C
  • Cairo: 35C
  • Hurghada and Sharm el-Sheikh: 40C
  • Luxor and Aswan: 43C
