A temporary worker on Tuesday set himself on fire in protest of being fired from his job at the People's Assembly.
A number of temporary workers who were fired from the People’s Assembly protested outside the parliament building demanding they be rehired. The workers demanded to speak with one of the officials but were turned down.
Mahmoud Hashish, one of the workers, then attempted to light himself on fire only to be rescued by security guards who put the fire out after it had burnt his feet. An ambulance took Hashish to the nearby Munira Hospital for treatment.
The number of people lighting themselves on fire in protest of unemployment, low wages and poor economic conditions had increased prior to the 25 January revolution which toppled President Hosni Mubarak.
