The first Assistant Minister of Supply and Internal Trade Ibrahim Ashmawy announced that the internal trade sector contributed 21 percent of the GDP in the fiscal year 2020/ 21, with a value of LE1.4 trillion.
Ashmawy said that the internal trade sector in Egypt is the largest economic sector at the state level in the last fiscal year 2020/21.
This sector includes wholesale/half wholesale and retail trade, supply chains, storage spaces, logistic areas and other activities that serve to supporting the trade system in Egypt.
He explained that this strategic sector employs nearly 10 million people, representing a third of the workforce in Egypt, and is the second fastest sector in terms of growth rates during the past four years.
This came on the sidelines of a visit organized by the Internal Trade Development Authority, affiliated to the Supply Ministry, for a delegation of Cairo University students to the commercial/logistical zone in Tanta.
The Sibirbay Zone in Gharbiya Governorate is the first and largest commercial and logistic area in the governorates of Egypt.
This project serves a large population density in the governorates of the Delta, amounting to 12 million people. Similar commercial/ logistical projects are being implemented in other governorates, amounting to 11 governorates, with a total of more than 18 projects, at an investment cost of LE 50 billion.
