Thousands of teachers on Saturday protested in front of the cabinet's headquarters in downtown Cairo to call for the removal of Minister of Education Ahmed Gamal Eddin Moussa.
The protesters also called for a minimum wage of LE3000 and for private tutoring to be criminalized.
The protest blocked Qasr al-Aini and Maglis al-Shaab Streets after thousands of teachers from across Egypt joined it. Five Central Security vehicles encircled the protesters.
Protesters chanted “The teachers want to dismiss the minister” and “Chant and teach: Moussa is part of the former regime.”
The protesters threatened to stage an open-ended sit-in if their demands are not heeded.
