TikToker Madahem charged with laundering LE 65 million

Egypt’s Ministry of Interior has decided to take legal action against content creator MadahemĀ for laundering approximately LE 65 million ($1.3 million USD) obtained from his criminal activity of promoting videos that violate society’s values and principles.

In a statement released on Thursday, the Ministry of Interior said, “In a continued effort to combat money laundering crimes, track the wealth of those involved in criminal activities, and monitor their assets, the Anti-Money Laundering and Organized Crime Sector, in coordination with relevant ministry bodies, has taken legal action against content creator Mohamed Kh., also known as Madahem…a resident of the Qanater El-Khayreya police district in Qalyubia, laundered funds obtained from his illicit activity of creating and managing a social media page. He used the page to publish videos that violate society’s values and principles with the aim of increasing views and achieving illegal financial gains, in violation of the law.”

The statement continued: “He attempted to conceal the sources of these funds and give them a legitimate appearance, making them seem as if they were generated from legal entities by purchasing residential units, cars, and motorcycles and establishing companies. The amount laundered by the individual is estimated at approximately EGP 65 million. Legal procedures have been taken.”
