Egypt has 66 museums, including 54 arts and history museums and 12 natural and applied sciences museums, the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS) reported on Thursday, adding that the number of museum visitors as well as revenues have declined over the past two years.
The number of visitors to art and history museums reached 3.2 million in 2015, compared to 4.3 million visitors in 2014, recording a decrease of 25.6 percent, said the report. Total revenues of arts and history museums amounted to LE63.5 million in 2015, compared to LE89.3 million in 2014, a decline of 28.9 percent – mainly due to the decline in the number of foreign visitors, according to CAPMAS.
The number of visitors to natural and applied sciences museums reached 3.2 million in 2015, leading to total revenues of LE 52.1 million in this category of museums for 2015, the report mentioned.
