Tourist ship Movenpick Egypt resumes its journey to Cairo

The Control Center for the National Emergency and Safety Network in Minya Governorate in Upper Egypt, on Sunday announced successfully floating the tourist vessel Movenpick Egypt and resuming its progress after it ran aground in front of the Atonian Museum, east of the Nile in Minya.

Minya Governor Emad Kedwani, followed the process of moving the tourist vessel and its procession in the Nile River from the city of Minya until the crossing the northern borders of the province on its way to Cairo, and was assured on the safety of the passengers.

Movenpick Egypt, of the Khedive Company for ships, was carrying 39 English tourists and one American tourist at the time when it ran aground during its trips to the archaeological areas, according to a source in Minya Tourism Department.

The head of Minya Security Directorate Magdy Salem received a report on Saturday, with the tourist ship carrying tourists running aground in the Nile River near the Minya City Bridge.

The river rescue team moved to the site of the accident, and the tourists were transferred to a tourist ship belonging to the local unit of Minya Center, until the ship was moved.

Two tugboats and a technical team were used to successfully relocate the ship, which returned to Akhenaten Dock, in preparations to complete its journey to Cairo.
