Tourists prevented from visiting Abu Simbel

Hundreds of villagers blocked the road to the famous Abu Simbel temples in Upper Egypt and prevented some 375 tourists from visiting the famous tourist attraction.

They were protesting sluggishness of the civil protection forces in recovering the bodies of three men whose fishing boat had sunk in Lake Nasser south of the High Dam. The protesters feared crocodiles would eat the bodies.

The road was reopened three hours later when the security director promised he personally would follow up the matter, MENA reported Sunday.

A security source told MENA that the accident took place on Tuesday, but the police were notified on Friday, which is why the recovery operation was delayed. The source added that the water’s depth made it difficult to find the bodies quickly.
