The General Traffic Department of Giza announced the appointment of the necessary traffic services to deal with any expected traffic congestion and direct traffic, in preparation for the start of construction work for the Giza Square Metro Station.
The department explained in a statement that the “14 – Giza” metro station will be implemented within the fourth line metro project at Giza Square station, and includes the removal of the Giza metal bridge exit leading to Abbas Bridge and al-Bahr al-Aazam Street in Giza.
The statement explained that construction work requires the complete closure of the extension of al-Ahram Street in the area between Giza Square and Abbas Bridge, specifically in front of the Ophthalmology Hospital, in both directions to traffic.
The statement added that the construction site will be closed starting Saturday morning, until the end of the work period lasting over six years.
The department stressed the appointment of the necessary traffic services and coordination with the implementing companies to provide technical assistance and all equipment indicating the presence of work in the area to ensure the safety and security of citizens.
It indicated that traffic diversions will be made as follows:
- Vehicles coming from the areas of al-Manial and Abbas Bridge and wishing to continue towards Giza Square will take al-Ahram Street, then turn right onto Qurra Ibn Sharik Street and continue driving until Murad Street until the newly created roundabout located after the Giza Bishopric Church, then turn again onto Murad Street and continue driving until reaching Giza Square.
- Vehicles coming from the areas of al-Manial and Abbas Bridge and wishing to drive towards al-Bahr al-Aazam Street will enter left from the newly created roundabout towards Abbas Tunnel and continue driving until reaching al-Bahr al-Aazam Street and al-Munib areas.
- Vehicles coming from Giza Metal Bridge and Giza Square and wishing to continue towards Abbas Bridge and al-Manial areas will get off Giza Metal Bridge and continue driving on Murad Street until the top of Bahey Eddin Barakat Tunnel, then turn right into Bahey Eddin Barakat Street and continue driving until Abbas Tunnel, then turn left into the ramp leading to Abbas Bridge and Manial areas.
