Train fares in Egypt have risen by up to 25%, impacting commuters nationwide

The Egyptian National Railways has announced an increase in ticket prices for several train services, effective from Thursday.

Ticket price increases:

  • First-class Talgo tickets on the Cairo-Alexandria line have increased by 50 Egyptian pounds, from 225 to 275.
  • Second-class Talgo tickets on the Cairo-Alexandria line have increased by 25 Egyptian pounds, from 150 to 175.
  • First and second-class tickets for Spanish Talgo trains on the Upper Egypt line remain unchanged.
  • First-class tickets for Spanish, French, VIP, Russian air-conditioned, and Russian ventilated trains of all types have seen a 12.5 percent increase, rounded up to the nearest five Egyptian pounds.
  • Second-class tickets for Spanish, French, VIP, Russian air-conditioned, and Russian ventilated trains of all types have seen a 12.5 percent increase, rounded up to the nearest five Egyptian pounds.
  • Commuter and ‘Tahya Masr’ trains have seen a 25 percent increase, rounded up to the nearest five Egyptian pounds.
