Emergency responders fought fires that broke out in trees around the Karnak Temple in Luxor Sunday for the second time in less than two weeks, and prevented it from spreading to the temple's interior.
Karnak Antiquities Department chief Ibrahim Suleiman told Al-Masry Al-Youm that the temple is thoroughly safe from fire because of the distance between the mud brick wall and a metal fence that both protect the complex.
He said emergency response forces are permanently positioned within the temple and are equipped with state-of-the-art extinguishing tools.
