“Trial of the Century” postponed to 9 August

The Cairo Criminal Court in its Thursday session decided to postpone the retrial of former President Hosni Mubarak, his sons Alaa and Gamal, fugitive businessman Hussein Salem, former Interior Minister Habib al-Adly and six of his top aides to 9 August.

The court will hear the closing statements of the defendants and their defense teams, starting with Habib al-Adly who will be allowed to address the court in person.

The court had heard the closing statement of the public prosecution regarding the defense arguments.

It also requested the military judiciary to inquire from the Maadi Military Hospital about Mubarak’s health condition as to whether he could attend sessions or would need medical assistance.

The court had received a report from the head of Mubarak’s medical team that he suffered a severe drop in blood pressure that required immediate transfer to the hospital.
