The trial of Egypt’s former interior minister Habib al-Adly has been postponed to 3 August, state-run TV announced on Monday.
Adly is charged with ordering the murder of pro-democracy protesters during the January uprising that forced Hosni Mubarak to resign from the presidency.
The case has been postponed so it can be combined with that of Mubarak, who will face trial on 3 August over the same charges.
Earlier, Abdel Salam Gomaa, the judge previously tasked with Adly’s trial, excused himself from continuing to supervise the proceedings. Egyptian revolutionaries had lambasted the selection of Gomaa, accusing him of issuing verdicts coordinated in advance with security authorities during Mubarak’s reign.
Adly has already been sentenced to twelve years for financial corruption.
Egyptian revolutionaries have grown disgruntled with the slow pace of officers' and ex-officials' trials for the murder of demonstrators.
Earlier in July, a court decision to release a number of officers accused of killing protesters on bail ignited massive protests calling for faster justice.
Several revolutionary groups demand the removal of Attorney General Abdel Meguid Mahmoud, accusing him of slowness in bringing the defendants to justice.
