The trial of several police officers accused of killing demonstrators during the recent uprising was adjourned on Monday after the families of the victims clashed with the lawyers of the defendants at the Alexandria Criminal Court. The case is set to reconvene on 17 October.
Streets leading to the court were blocked by police and soldiers, and access to the hearing was restricted to authorized personnel.
According to eyewitnesses, the families of the victims were offended to see the defendants in civilian clothes, demanding that they wear the white uniforms officially made for detainees who are jailed pending investigation.
The trial was interrupted several times due to the families of the victims interfering in the proceedings, prompting the judge to postpone the trial.
