Burhan Kuzu, the Istanbul deputy of the Justice and Development Party, has accused Germany and others of masterminding plots against Turkey during recent protests against its Islamist-led government.
“We must protect Turkey from those who do not want it to grow,” he said.
The Turkish Hurriyet newspaper on Monday quoted Kuzu as saying that Germany was in fact behind the Taksim Square protests, adding that Germany objected to the fact the Turkish government is building a third airport in Istanbul.
The airport would become the largest in the world, Kuzu claimed.
