Maritime safety expert Mohamed al-Rawy revealed that the cargo ship “Raptor”, according to preliminary information, sank 4.5 miles off the Greek coast of Lesbos with twelve Egyptians confirmed to have been on board.
He explained that the ship is a General Cargo type that transports general goods with a total tonnage of 4,294 tons.
It was built in 1984 in Istanbul, and sails under the flag of the Comoros.
Rawy added that the ship’s crew consisted of 15 individuals of three different nationalities: one Indian, two Syrians, and 12 Egyptians.
He noted that one of the crew members had disembarked at the port of Alexandria before the ship set off for its ill-fated voyage.
The ship was headed to Turkey on November 21 carrying a shipment of salt.

The ship’s crew attempted to empty the water but failed, while the ship tried to swerve before it sank and the crew jumped out.
