Two people were killed and 16 others arrested when security forces raided a drug den in the Cairo neighborhood of Nasr City.
The Interior Ministry issued a statement Wednesday saying the raid was part of a large-scale operation in the Toub al-Ramly area of Nasr City in coordination with the Public Security Department and the Cairo Security Department.
During the raid, some suspects started shooting heavily at police forces, who returned fire, the statement said. A 17-year-old previously implicated in a drug case and another 21-year-old man were killed.
Authorities seized 15 kg of marijuana, 250 grams of hash, 50 narcotic drugs, four locally-made rifles, two vans, two bladed weapons and money. Those detained during the operation admitted to being part of a gang that specialized in the sale of narcotics, the ministry statement claimed.
