Two militants involved in attacks against security forces killed: interior ministry

Two militants involved in a string of attacks targeting security personnel were killed Sunday, said interior ministry.

The incidents include a blast outside a court in Cairo's Heliopolis neighbourhood on August 10, killing a police officer and injuring two others.

The interior ministry stated that the militants were also involved in an explosion on a bridge running over the uptown island of Zamalek in Cairo in April, killing one police officer.

The two militants took refuge in a deserted area in the district of Shorouk on the Cairo- Suez road, said the interior ministry in a statement.

Militancy inside Egypt has surged since the ouster of former president Mohamed Mursi in July 2013. While the vast majority of bombings and shootings take place in North Sinai, other parts of the country have been affected too.
