Two suspects killed, accused of attempting to assassinate Judge Motaz Khafagy

Security forces killed two suspects accused of detonating an explosive device under the car of Judge Moataz Khafagy, who the head of the South Cairo Court and was reviewing the cases known as the "Guidance Bureau", "Agnad Masr" and the "Kerdasa Events", an official from the Interior Ministry’s Media Center said in a statement on Monday.
 
The move comes along efforts by security services to pursue terrorist elements involved in acts of violence against the police, the army and the judiciary.
 
The two suspects, Ahmed Hassan Abdel Latif Marie, a technician of the Helwan Health Directorate born in 1983, and Saeed Sayed Ahmed Sayed, born in 1982, who lived in the Masara al-Balad district of Helwan, were allegedly members of a terrorist cell affiliated with the Muslim Brotherhood.
 
Security forces said they were prompted to return fire at the two men once they began to shoot at them from their hideout 
 
The forces found an automatic rifle and a 9mm gun in their possession.
 
Prosecutors are still investigating the incident.
 
The two men were accused of being involved in the attack on Judge Khafagy who woke up on May 10 to the sound of explosions at his residence in Helwan. A blast damaged five other cars and injured a man who was in the vicinity by accident.
 
The judge is currently presiding over a trial involving major Brotherhood leaders.
