A recently conducted UN report says that Egypt’s population is expected to significantly increase–by 60 million–within the upcoming 30 years, witnessing a two percent increase each year.
The report indicated that Egypt, along with eight other countries, will contribute significantly to the projected growth of the world’s population within the upcoming thirty years. The eight countries predicted to witness significant population growth are India, Nigeria, Pakistan, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Ethiopia, the United Republic of Tanzania, and Indonesia.
The population of Egypt, regionally the most populous country, will reach nearly 225 million during the coming 30 years, following several African countries such as the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Ethiopia, and Tanzania, according to the report.
Furthermore, the report predicts that by 2027 India will be the world’s most populous country instead of China. The Indian population will be almost 1.6 billion by 2050. The report also notes that the world’s population will reach almost 11 billion by the end of this century.
The figures as well as the highlights included in the report were all prepared and published by the Population Division of the UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs. The report presents an inclusive outline for global demographic patterns.
The current Egyptian population is 101,172,280, according to the latest United Nations estimates. This number is equivalent to 1.31% of the entire global population, Worldometers reported.
In the same vein, Egypt comes in 14th place on the list of Worldometers’ list of countries by population. The inhabited Egyptian land is 102 people per square kilometer (263 people per square mile) out of the total land area, which is 995,450 square kilometers (384,345 square miles). Meteroword said that the median age in Egypt is 24.8 years.
In collaboration with the UN, Egypt launched in 2018 a program “Etneen Kefaya” (Two is Enough), addressing Egyptian women to raise their awareness of the importance of birth control and providing them with contraception methods, Al-Ahram reported.
The program was fueled by support from around 100 non-profit organizations that trained volunteers to deliver awareness messages to the target audience, according to Al-Ahram.
