Unemployment rate in Egypt fell to 7.4% in 2021: CAPMAS

Egypt’s unemployment rate fell for 20201 fell by 0.5 percent to 7.4 percent, said the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics.

The unemployment rate stood at 7.9 percent for both 2020 and 2019.

CAPMAS said in a Saturday statement that during the past year, the unemployment rate recorded 7.4 percent in the first quarter, 7.3 percent in the second quarter, and 7.5 percent in the third quarter of the year.

The unemployment rate among young people between the ages of15-29 was 15 percent of the total labor force in the same age group, which is the same rate of 2020.

Unemployment among young males reached 10.8 percent and 35.9 percent in young females.

CAPMAS explained that the unemployment rate for young people in the age group (15-29 years) who hold intermediate, above-average, university degrees and above amounted to 19.8 percent of the total labor force in the same age group, reaching 14.2 percent for males, and 41.2 percent for the unemployment rate of females.

It revealed that the number of unemployed people reached 2.1 million in 2021, compared to 2.2 million in 2020, a decrease of 89,000 by 3.9 percent.

The unemployment rate was among 5.6 percent for males, and 16 percent for females. The unemployment rate in urban areas was 11.2 percent, compared to 4.3 percent in the countryside.
