The United Nations has sent several planes to evacuate the families of its essential and non-essential staff in Egypt, an official source said on Thursday.
The deportation process began on Wednesday and will continue until Saturday, the same source said.
Earlier this week, Britain took similar steps to evacuate its citizens in Egypt on civilian aircraft following the massive wave of popular protests that have shaken the country to demand the ouster of Egypt's longtime president, Hosni Mubarak.
Germany's foreign ministry, meanwhile, has said that German tourists and citizens living in Egypt would be transported on more than 20 air flights in light of the country’s ongoing political turmoil.
