University professor warned after making anti-regime statements

The head of the Department of Ophthalmology at Beni Suef University's Faculty of Medicine, Sherif Ahmed, has been issued with a warning by the university's president, Amin Lotfy, regarding anti-regime statements published by the professor on social media.

According to investigations conducted by the university legal committee, Ahmed published statements critical of the president, the army and the police that could undermine the stability of the state and stir public opinion, said Lotfy.

The Interior Ministry has said in the past that it monitors social media for subversive content and has arrested a number of bloggers for calling for anti-regime protests and allegedly inciting violence.
