Despite rising paper costs causing book prices to increase, exhibitors at the 55th Cairo International Book Fair are making offers and discounts of up to 70 percent.
The exhibition is scheduled to open on January 24 and continue until February 6, at Egypt International Exhibitions Center (EIEC) in the Fifth Settlement.
Exhibitors are offering discounts starting from 10 percent and up to 70 percent.
According to these offers, the price of the lowest book is five LE while some publishing houses offer up their books for free.
Book specializations at the exhibition include a wide variety of religious, political, economic, novels, literature, heritage, and Egyptology books, in addition to children’s books and educational texts.
An official at an publishing house Mohamed al-Talawy, says that his house specializes in heritage books and those for Al-Azhar students, which include logic, doctrine, philosophy, and Sufism.
It offers discounts during this event of up to 50 percent, in addition to offering books at reduced prices of up to LE20 per book. He added they sometimes offer free books, all determined based on the purchasing value and the student’s specialization, and at some times it is a donation or encouragement from the house to Azhar students.
A publisher, Reda Ebada, said that book prices start from LE10 up to LE 500, meaning that a novel that originally costs LE50 will be sold for LE15, explaining that the house publishes in all specializations and offers discounts of up to 70 percent.
Another publishing official, Mokhtar Azab, said that the discount starts from 10 percent and reaches 50 percent, in addition to many other offers in which the price of a book starts from five LE.
