The first Cairo-Upper Egypt train in three days left on Wednesday heading to Assiut.
Upper Egypt railway movements had been halted for three month for security reasons after the dispersal of pro-Morsy sit-ins in August. The movement was resumed earlier this month, only to be suspended again last week after the bloody Dahshour train crash last week that killed at least 27.
Cairo Railways station saw tight security measurement, while a state of joy prevailed among passengers for the return of the train movement.
Planning Minister Ashraf Araby said on Tuesday that LE10 billion will be allocated to develop the railway in the next investment plan.
Official sources at the Transportation Ministry said that a meeting was held between the army, the police and the railway authority to settled on measures in order to secure the movement of trains, including inspecting the trains to find metals and weapons, and deploying a police officer and seven recruits at each train.
