US department of state initiative honors Egyptian scientist

An initiative by the United States' Department of State for encouraging female scientists in the Middle East and North Africa has honored an Egyptian scientist for her achievements in the feild of opthalmology.
 
“Congratulations to Dr. Azza Shehab, who was selected by the Department of State into the Women in Science Hall of Fame,” read a post by the US embassy in Cairo on its Facebook page, describing the Minya University professor as “one of Egypt’s leaders in the vision sciences, and she’s an outstanding role model for ‪#‎women‬ and girls pursuing careers in science and education.”
 
The page noted that Shehab is a specialized writer in the field of genetic ophthalmologic disorders, having authored, and coauthored, more than 20 issues in that field.
 
It added that Shehab had been invited to conduct research as a visiting researcher at several renowned institutions, including the Jules Stein Eye Institute, University of Ottawa and University of California.
 
Shehab Holds medicine certificates from the universities of Minya and Ottawa, as well as a masters degree from Cairo University. She was accepted by the Fulbright program in 2001.
