The US Embassy has urged all Americans living in Cairo to exercise the uptmost caution on Friday and Saturday and limit their movements to their neighborhoods, warning of possible protests in squares, universities and around government buildings.

The embassy said that it would monitor events throughout the weekend and issue more security alerts, pointing to reports on 21 January about a suspicious object found in Zamalek that turned out not be an explosive device.
Other media reports were released about a bomb found on Tuesday in a subway station, which police later reported were merely sound grenades, not explosives.
