Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry received a phone call from US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo on Thursday evening, related to ongoing consultations between the two countries on overall developments in the region and the bilateral situation.
Official spokesman for the Egyptian foreign ministry, Ahmed Hafez, said the two ministers discussed the importance of continuing to push forward bilateral relations between their countries during the next stage.
He added that the two ministers discussed starting preparations for meetings between the defense and foreign ministers of the two countries, in accordance with “2 + 2” talks, and a round of strategic dialogue for strengthening common relations at all levels.
Hafez said that Shoukry and Pompeo exchanged their views on the latest developments in the region and agreed to intensify communication during the next phase to consult on regional issues and the challenges facing the Middle East’s stability.
