Very hot, humid weather across Egypt on Sunday, heatwave throughout the week

Meteorologists predict very hot and humid weather on Sunday during the day over Greater Cairo, the Delta governorates, South Sinai and Upper Egypt, with hot and humid weather on the northern coasts.

The weather will be moderately hot and humid at night over all parts of the country, and the increased humidity will exacerbate the feeling of hot weather by two to four degrees throughout the day.


Maximum temperatures:

Alexandria: 34C

Cairo: 40C

Sharm el-Sheikh and Hurghada: 38C

Qena: 42C

Luxor and Aswan: 43C


Active winds are expected on Greater Cairo and the northwestern coasts.

Mist expected in the morning on some roads leading to Greater Cairo, Lower Egypt and the northern coasts.

Waves in the Mediterranean Sea will be moderate, ranging between 1.5 and two meters in height with northwestern surface winds, while waves in the Red Sea will be low to moderate, ranging between one and 1.75 meters in height with southwestern to southeastern surface winds.

The Director of the Remote Sensing Center at the Egyptian Meteorological Authority (EMA) Eman Shaker said that there will be a gradual increase in temperatures over the coming week.

During a phone interview with Sada al-Balad TV channel, Shaker explained that the temperatures in Cairo are 39C, rising to 40C on Sunday and reaching 42C by the end of the week.

She advised citizens to avoid direct exposure to the sun from 12 noon until five pm.

Shaker noted to chances of rain in the south of the country affected by India’s monsoon, but temperatures will remain high in the southern parts of the country even while it rains starting from Tuesday until the end of the week.
