TV host Amr Adib announced what he called the end of the “tuk-tuk” era in Egypt, during his demonstration of the “Qute” car, which comes as part of a comprehensive state initiative to regulate tuk-tuk vehicles.
During his show “al-Hekaya” (the story) on MBC Egypt on Saturday evening, Adib said that Egypt’s streets are changing, adding, “we had a hero on the Egyptian street, the tuk-tuk, and it will be gone in the coming days.”
“The tuk-tuk empire was the most important thing in Egypt, especially in the alleys and rural areas, then the government came and said, ‘No more tuk-tuks.'”
During his show, Adib showed a video of himself driving the “Qute” tuk-tuk replacement, experiencing it firsthand, commenting, “The new king of the road, and its seat is comfortable.”
