Ramy Youssef brought up the liberation of Palestine in his Saturday Night Live (SNL) monologue, marking the first time a guest has ever spoken about the topic in the show’s history, the ETbilArabic website reported.
In his monologue, Youssef also called for the release of the hostages who were taken, and for a ceasefire.
He brought the time he received a phone call from his friend Ahmed, who asked him to pray for his family in Gaza.
“I’ve got a lot to fit in. I’m like, ‘God, please, please help Ahmed’s family. Please stop the suffering. Stop the violence. Please free the people of Palestine, please.’”
Youssef is an outspoken proponent of the Palestinian cause. He openly advocated for a ceasefire when he attended the Oscars ceremony in March, where he wore a pin on his suit for a ceasefire.
He told journalist Mark Malkin: “We are calling for peace and lasting justice for the Palestinian people. It is a universal message that says: Let us stop killing children. Let us not be part of more wars.”
Youssef is currently promoting his TV special “Ramy Youssef: More Feelings,” which premiered on March 23.
The official blurb for the show describe it as offering “Unique reflections on our divided world and the unexpected dangers of greater giving and goodness, and addresses topics including the 2024 presidential election, the importance of prayer, and the childhood book report that changed the course of his life.”
