Watch: ‘Star Wars’ demo displays Virtual Reality pull

A virtual reality (VR) experience called "Star Wars: Trials on Tatooine" is being used to show off the power of virtual reality at the Game Developers Conference.

More specifically, it's the Vive VR headset, a product of collaboration between hardware manufacturer HTC and PC gaming experts Valve, which is benefiting from LucasArts and Industrial Light and Magic project "Trials on Tatooine".

The trailer was briefly made available for viewing via the ILMxLab website before it was noticed and swiftly archived by VR news enthusiasts.

Presenting it as an experiment rather than a game, "Star Wars: Trials on Tatooine" is supporting the HTC Vive's presence at GDC 2016.

Taking place on Luke Skywalker's home planet of Tatooine, the Millennium Falcon, Han Solo and R2D2, TIE fighters, lightsabers, Stormtroopers and an Imperial Transport all featured in the demonstration, relayed Road to VR, with the HTC Vive controllers allowing a degree of well-paced interactivity.

"'Star Wars: Trials on Tatooine' was only a tease that left me wanting much, much more," wrote site co-founder Ben Lang in a report from the show floor.
