White House reveals details of Sisi-Trump phone call

The White House announced in a statement on Saturday that US President Donald Trump stressed to Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi the importance of the role played by Cairo in releasing prisoners and detainees in Gaza.

This came during a phone call between Trump and Sisi on Saturday evening, according to the statement.

The White House said that Sisi expressed his confidence that “Trump’s leadership can herald a golden age of peace in the Middle East.”

The White House also indicated that Trump and Sisi discussed other issues such as the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam.

A statement from the Egyptian Presidency said that Sisi congratulated Trump for his second term as President of the United States, showcasing the great confidence the American people have in him and his capabilities.

President Sisi also invited Trump to visit Egypt at the earliest possible opportunity, to strengthen strategic relations between both nations and discuss the complex issues and crises facing the Middle East region – as well as to participate in the opening of the Grand Egyptian Museum.

President Trump, on his end, extended an open invitation to President Sisi to visit Washington and meet him at the White House.

Bilateral issues

The call also addressed bilateral, regional and international issues.

It stressed the depth of strategic relations between the two countries, the need to strengthen economic and investment relations between them, and cooperation in the field of water security.

The two leaders also expressed their desire to achieve peace and stability in the Middle East.

The Egyptian presidency stated that the call was a positive dialogue, and included the importance of continuing to implement the first and second phases of the ceasefire agreement and consolidating the ceasefire in Gaza Strip reached through Egyptian, Qatari and American mediation

They also stressed the urgency of intensifying the delivery of aid to the residents of Gaza.

President Sisi called for reaching lasting peace in the region.

He pointed out that the international community is counting on President Trump’s ability to reach a permanent and historic peace agreement that ends the conflict that has existed in the region for decades, especially with Trump’s bias towards peace – which the US President emphasized in his inauguration speech.

Concluding their call, both presidents concurred on the necessity of sustaining communication, coordination, and cooperation between their countries regarding issues of mutual interest.

They also called for increasing meetings between the relevant officials from both sides to forge closer bilateral relations across all domains and to explore solutions to various issues, reflecting the robustness and depth of Egypt-America’s relationship.
