National Telecom Regulatory Authority (NTRA) President Amr Badawi said that the authority is taking steps to improve DSL capacity in Egypt.
Badawi said many potential users are unable to subscribe with DSL service providers due to Egypt Telecom’s relatively limited capacity. "That is why we are considering a wireless connection known as WiMax, which can have nationwide coverage," he explained. "We will divide the country into urban and rural zones and provide each with the capacity it needs."
DSL was introduced in Egypt in 2003 at a time when Internet users numbered only 800,000. Today there are 20 million users nationwide.
