Midfielder Mahmoud Abdul Razek (Shikabala) will no longer participate in international games, said Ibrahim Hassan, director of football for the Zamalek club.
Shikabala sent an official letter regarding his decision to the Football Federation on Friday, Hassan said in a statement to Modern Sport Satellite channel. Hassan attributed Shikabala’s decision to antagonistic chants by Ahly fans following Thursday’s game as well as accusations that Shikabala is evading joining the Egyptian national team.
The Ahly-Zamalek game ended in a tie without goals.
Coach Hassan Shehata of the national team has previously attacked Shikabala for refusing to join the team on several occasions on the grounds that he is injured.
Shikabala is the top scorer in the Egyptian National Football League and has led the Zamalek club as the top team in the league.
According to Hassan, Shikabala felt that he was pressured and not supported by anyone.
Shikbala played 11 international games with the Egyptian national team, and scored one goal. He also played with Egypt in the Africa Cup of Nations in 2010, but did not participate in 2006 and 2008. Egypt won the tournament all three years.
